Abstract (EN)
Human beings are creatures who observe events and situations in their own lives, find meaning in them, and derive lessons from them. The Qur'an, which was sent as a guidance for humanity, uses narratives as a suitable method of expression that resonates with this aspect of human nature. During the period of the Qur'an's revelation, it appears that Prophet Muhammad and the early community found meaning in the narratives that was connected to their own life experiences. Therefore, our study aims to understand the story of Hz. Maryam in the context of its revelation and the Prophet's biography. In the Quran, the story of Hz. Maryam is mentioned alongside the story of her son, Hz. Isa (Jesus). However, considering the limitations of drawing parallel connections between the story of Hz. Maryam and the story of Hz. Isa, our study primarily emphasizes the narrative of Hz. Maryam's life, with brief mentions of information about Hz. Isa. Our study, which examines the story of Hz. Maryam in the context of its revelation period, consists of three parts. In the first part, the importance of narratives in the Quran is explained, and general information about narratives is provided. The second and third parts extensively analyze the story of Hz. Maryam, focusing on the chapters of Maryam and Al-Imran. To understand the messages contained in these chapters, information about the history, culture, social structure, and religious background of both Makkah and Madinah, where these chapters were revealed (one in Makkah and the other in Madinah), is provided. Furthermore, considering Hz. Maryam's significant role in Judaism and Christianity, the study also touches upon the relations with the People of the Book during the periods of revelation. Lastly, the evaluation of the narrative within the context of both periods of revelation is conducted. Considering the chronological order of revelation, the first place where a detailed account of Hz. Maryam's life is found is in the chapter of Maryam, which was revealed in Makkah. Although this chapter was revealed early on, it narrates not the childhood period of Hz. Maryam's life but rather the period when she became pregnant with Hz. Isa. Some information about the birth and upbringing of Hz. Maryam is mentioned in the chapter of Al-Imran, which was revealed in Madinah. When considering the relation between revelation and biography, it can be observed that the Quranic narratives do not aim to provide historical facts or follow a strict chronological order, but rather convey the intended messages. Therefore, the life of Hz. Maryam is studied within the framework of the chronological order of the Quran. While there are narratives in the Qur'an that can be seen as a stage in the construction of monotheism in Mecca, there are also narratives in Medina that can be evaluated within the realm of social relationships. These narratives serve as an example of presenting the intended message of the narratives in an appropriate form. Key Words: Qur'an, Story, Meaning and Comment, Maryam, Ahl al-Kitab.
