Abstract (EN)

Diabetes mellitus, the most common disorder of the endocrine system, affects millions of people all over the world. It is a chronic disease characterized by carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism abnormality accompanying clinical and biochemical findings. Type 2 diabetes constitutes 80-90% of all diabetes cases. According to Heart Disease and Risk Factors Study on Turkish Adult (TEKHARF) study results, in our country for 2007/08 years diabetes prevalence of 11.3% in the 35 and older population (3.3 million people), and prediabetes prevalence of 13.9% (4.1 million person) was estimated. Again according to TEKHARF data the rate of increase in diabetes is emphasized 6,7% in a year or is being doubled in 10-11 years. Another large-scale study in our country for patients over 20 year-old 7,2% for DM rate and IGT rate was reported as 6.7%. And the recently announced results of a research, carried out as a repetition of the study in 2010 DM rate of 13.7% and IGT rate was 13.9%. In the same study the prediabetic population is described of about 14 million people. Within these in two studies in 12 years compared DM rates increase 90%, IGT increase rate is noticed 110%. These data emphasizes prediabetes prevalence and the importance of community health once more. These two notions are considered to be risk factors for developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD). A combination of both is a stronger risk factor. In our study, we aimed to determine variance of prediabetes and diabetes in our patients and socio-demographic, anthropometric and familial risk factors which could affect the stage. In our study, performed in 507 patients, we have seen that for ascending APG values, prediabetes and diabetes incidences increase. We have concluded that familiar history for diabetes; macrosomic baby birth and gender have no significant effect on the development of prediabetes.
