Determining the relationship between weight loss with anthropometric measurements, quality of life and some biochemical parameters in obese individuals

Abstract (EN)
This study is proposed to define the differences between weight loss with anthropometric measurements, quality of life and some biochemical parameters in obese individuals. This was applied to 22 female individuals who are obese between the age of 19-64 in Bozüyük Public Hospital Nutrition and Dietetics Clinics. In first meeting, individuals' demographical features, nutrition habits were examined and anthropometric measurements, physical activity levels were defined, biochemical findings were analyzed, SF-36 life quality scale containing 8 sub-score was applied. After the first meeting, their weight loss diet program and nutrition education was given to the individuals. Individuals were asked to come to a control that checks an individual's body weight, waist circumference, hip circumference and waist / hip ratio were recorded changes in 2 weeks. At the end of 6 weeks, to determine the effects of weight loss, anthropometric measurements, body composition, biochemical tests and SF-36 quality of life scale were repeated. The average age of the participants was defined 39.8±10.0 year. It was defined that the average body weight of individuals before diet was 89.8±18.4 kg, the average body length of the participants was 160.0±10.25 cm and the BMI mean was 34.1±8.0 kg/m2. While 68.2% of individuals had over weighted individuals in their family, 86.4% of them weren't performing physical activity. A statistical meaningful reduce was defined on average body weight from 89.8±18.4 kg to 84.5±17.3 kg (p<0.001). According to BMI, while pre-diet BMI mean was 34.1±8.0 kg/m2, after the diet BMI was decreased 32.4±6.9 kg/m2, also this decrease was statistically meaningful. There were statistically meaningful differences on Individuals' body composition measurements after diet. The fat mass of individuals was decreased statistically according to the pre-diet fat mass (p<0.001, p<0.01). Individuals' after diet blood triglycerides level average was decreased from 113.0±110.0 mg/dl to 104.5±68.5 mg/dl, the blood cholesterol level was decreased from 191.4±36.6 mg/dl to 181.3±34.0 mg/dl and the blood C-reactive protein level, which defines the inflammation, was decreased from 4.7±7.3 mg/L to 3.05±6.9 mg/L, also these reduce were statistically meaningful (p<0.01, p<0.05, p<0.01). When the life quality of individuals was examined, there was meaningful increment (p<0.001). On the contrary, the mental health summary score between pre-diet and after diet wasn't meaningful statistically (p>0.05). In this study, the correlation between the life quality and some parameters was examined. Between the pre-diet physical health summary score of individuals and individual number in the family, there was a negative correlation (p<0.01). Besides, a negative correlation was defined between meal number and the physical health score (p<0.05). Between mental health score and main meal number, there was a positive correlation (p<0.01). Also the protein amount that individuals take and weight loss was correlated positively (p<0.01). Finally, with the help of weight loss, there was a significant improvement on life quality, anthropometric measurements and biochemical findings.
