Examining the relationship between emotional eating, uncontrolled eating, cognitive restriction tendencies and mindfulness in obese individuals

Abstract (EN)

In the research, in individuals with obesity; the relationship between emotional eating, uncontrolled eating and cognitive restriction tendencies and mindfulness levels was investigated. The research sample consisted of 201 people who applied to the dietitian clinic for the first time and had a body mass index of 30 and above. The "Conscious Awareness Scale (BİFÖ), Three-Factor Eating Scale (TFEQ-R21) and Demographic Information Form" were administered to the participants. According to the results of the research, there is a good negative correlation between emotional eating and mindfulness (r=-.641, p=.000). There is a moderate negative correlation between uncontrolled eating and mindfulness (r=-.601, p=.000). There is a week positive correlation between cognitive restriction and mindfulness (r= 314, p=,000). Compared to socio-demographic properties, women's emotional eating scores are higher than men's. Emotional eating, in 25-30 age group is higher than the 31-40 age group. When the education level is considered, those with primary, secondary and associate degree education have more emotional eating than those with undergraduate education. While there is no gender differentiation in uncontrolled eating, single people have more uncontrolled eating than married people. When compared by education level, those with secondary education have more uncontrolled eating than those with undergraduate education and postgraduate education. Those in primary education have more uncontrolled eating than those in postgraduate education. The 25-30 age group has more uncontrolled eating than other ages (Except for the 18-24 age group). Conscious Awareness levels, men have a higher awareness score of women, when the educational status compared, those with undergrauate and graduate education have higher awareness compared to primary and secaondary education. Considering the age variable, it is seen that the 31-40 age group has the highest awareness. Keywords: mindfulness, emotional eating, uncontrolled eating, cognitive restriction.
