Abstract (EN)

Evaluation of Cardiac Electrophysiological Balance Index in Obese Individuals In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the cardio-electrophysiological balance index in obese individuals and compare them with healthy controls. The study included 80 obese individuals and 60 healthy controls aged 18-65 years who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Socio-demographic characteristics of both groups were examined. Standard electrocardiograms of the groups were evaluated, QT interval, corrected QT value according to Bazett's formula, QRS duration were calculated. QT and corrected QT values were divided by QRS duration and cardio-electrophysiological balance index and corrected cardio-electrophysiological balance index were calculated. Conventional echocardiographic examination of the groups was performed, left ventricular global strain and left ventricular mechanical dispersion were evaluated with 2D speckle tracking echocardiography. Correlation of cardio-electrophysiological balance index and mechanical dispersion was evaluated. It was determined that the corrected cardio-electrophysiological balance index was higher in obese individuals. It was observed that left ventricular mechanical dispersion, which was evaluated with 2D speckle tracking echocardiography, was also higher in obese individuals and had a good correlation with the corrected cardio-electrophysiological balance index. A significant correlation was found between the severity of obesity and both the corrected cardiac electrophysiological balance index and left ventricular mechanical dispersion. Detection of electrocardiographic balance index, which is one of the electrocardiographic markers of ventricular arrhythmia, and left ventricular mechanical dispersion, which is one of the echocardiographic findings of ventricular arrhythmia, are higher in obese individuals may guide the explanation of increased sudden cardiac death. Cardiac cardio-electrophysiological balance index and left ventricular mechanical dispersion may be useful in detecting the increased risk of ventricular arrhythmia in obese individuals and providing close follow-up.
