Evaluation of healthy lifestyle behaviors and quality of life in obese individuals

Abstract (EN)
Obesity is a disease whose incidence is increasing day by day and is considered the pandemic of the 21st century. In addition to genetic factors that cause obesity, the main reasons are a diet containing high-energy foods, rich in saturated fat and simple sugar, and a sedentary lifestyle. Obesity not only affects the individual physically but also brings with it many metabolic problems. The aim of the research is to evaluate healthy lifestyle behaviors and quality of life in obese individuals. Study; It was conducted with a total of 388 participants, whose ages varied between 18-65 and whose average age was 30.1±10.6 years. In this study, the effect of weight on quality of life in obese individuals was evaluated using the healthy eating behavior scale and the quality of life scale. As a result of this study; It was found that the obesity duration of the participants was lower in women than in men, and there were similarities between women and men in terms of weight loss and maintenance time. The energy, vitality and vitality mean scores of women and men are 43.3±18.5 and 47.7±16.9, respectively, and a statistical significance was found between the mean scores, and the mean score of men is higher. In case of a disease requiring medication use, the self-actualization score is 29.9±6, the exercise score is 8.3±2.5, and the interpersonal Support score is 14.2±2.8. Compared to those who do not have a disease that requires medication, people with the disease have lower mean scores on self-actualization, exercise, and interpersonal support. If the number of members in the family is small, the energy, vitality and vitality score is 52.7±17.5, the general health perception score is 47.4±13.1 and the stress management score is 26.3±5.5. Those with fewer family members have higher average energy, vitality, vitality, general health perception and stress management scores than those with a higher number of family members. In the presence of an obese family member, the self-actualization score is 29.7±6.4, the health responsibility score is 15.4±4.1, the exercise score is 7.9±2.4, and the nutrition score is 5.1±1.4. Self-actualization, health responsibility, exercise and nutrition average scores are lower for people with an obese family member than for people without. Participants who are satisfied with their weight have a self-actualization score of 35.9±8.9, nutrition score of 5.6±1.6, and healthy lifestyle behavior score of 116.5±25.9. Participants who are satisfied with their weight have higher mean scores on self-actualization, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle behaviors than participants who are not. As a result of this thesis study; It was concluded that obesity negatively affects the quality of life and healthy lifestyle behaviors.
