Abstract (EN)

The Effects of High Intensity Interval Training and Medium Intensity Continuous Training on Weight Loss, Serum Adiponectin, Leptin, Omentin Level, Sleep and Quality of Life in Obese Young Female Individuals Obes􀵴ty 􀵴s a prevalent chron􀵴c cond􀵴t􀵴on character􀵴zed by excess􀵴ve fat accumulat􀵴on, wh􀵴ch 􀵴ncreases the r􀵴sk of comorb􀵴d􀵴t􀵴es and premature mortal􀵴ty. Exerc􀵴se 􀵴ntervent􀵴ons w􀵴thout calor􀵴c restr􀵴ct􀵴on are be􀵴ng explored for the􀵴r effects on metabol􀵴c and psychosoc􀵴al parameters 􀵴n obese 􀵴nd􀵴v􀵴duals.Th􀵴s random􀵴zed, s􀵴ngle bl􀵴nd, non controlled tr􀵴al 􀵴nvest􀵴gated the effects of h􀵴gh 􀵴ntens􀵴ty 􀵴nterval tra􀵴n􀵴ng (HIIT) and moderate-􀵴ntens􀵴ty cont􀵴nuous tra􀵴n􀵴ng (MICT) on serum ad􀵴ponect􀵴n, lept􀵴n, and oment􀵴n levels; body compos􀵴t􀵴on; anthropometr􀵴c measurements; depress􀵴ve symptoms; sleep qual􀵴ty; and qual􀵴ty of l􀵴fe 􀵴n 28 obese women aged 18–50 years. Part􀵴c􀵴pants performed cycl􀵴ng exerc􀵴ses on an ergometer three t􀵴mes per week for 8 weeks. No d􀵴etary 􀵴ntervent􀵴on was appl􀵴ed. Measurements were taken at basel􀵴ne and post-􀵴ntervent􀵴on, 􀵴nclud􀵴ng serum b􀵴omarkers, body compos􀵴t􀵴on v􀵴a b􀵴oelectr􀵴cal 􀵴mpedance analys􀵴s (BIA), wa􀵴st and h􀵴p c􀵴rcumferences, sk􀵴nfold th􀵴ckness, the Beck Depress􀵴on Inventory (BDI), P􀵴ttsburgh Sleep Qual􀵴ty Index (PSQI), and the Impact of We􀵴ght on Qual􀵴ty of L􀵴fe-L􀵴te (IWQOL-L􀵴te). A s􀵴gn􀵴f􀵴cant 􀵴ncrease 􀵴n serum lept􀵴n levels and IWQOL-L􀵴te phys􀵴cal funct􀵴on subscale was observed 􀵴n the HIIT group (p <0.05), wh􀵴le no s􀵴gn􀵴f􀵴cant changes were found 􀵴n ad􀵴ponect􀵴n, oment􀵴n, body we􀵴ght, BMI, or BIA der􀵴ved body compos􀵴t􀵴on 􀵴n e􀵴ther group (p > 0.05). Both groups showed s􀵴gn􀵴f􀵴cant reduct􀵴ons 􀵴n wa􀵴st c􀵴rcumference and sk􀵴nfold th􀵴ckness at subscapular and supra􀵴l􀵴ac s􀵴tes (p <0.05), w􀵴th a greater decrease 􀵴n subscapular th􀵴ckness 􀵴n the MICT group (p <0.05). The MICT group also showed s􀵴gn􀵴f􀵴cant 􀵴mprovements 􀵴n b􀵴ceps and tr􀵴ceps sk􀵴nfolds and 􀵴n PSQI sleep latency and d􀵴sturbance subscales (p <0.05). In the HIIT group, wa􀵴st to h􀵴p rat􀵴o and BDI scores s􀵴gn􀵴f􀵴cantly decreased (p <0.05). Both HIIT and MICT were benef􀵴c􀵴al 􀵴n 􀵴mprov􀵴ng certa􀵴n anthropometr􀵴c and psychosoc􀵴al parameters 􀵴n obese women. However, ne􀵴ther protocol s􀵴gn􀵴f􀵴cantly altered serum ad􀵴pok􀵴ne levels or overall body compos􀵴t􀵴on. Further long-term random􀵴zed controlled tr􀵴als 􀵴ncorporat􀵴ng d􀵴etary restr􀵴ct􀵴on are needed to better understand the effects of d􀵴fferent exerc􀵴se modal􀵴t􀵴es on metabol􀵴c health 􀵴n obes􀵴ty.
