Abstract (EN)
This study was aimed to explore the association between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and lipid profile (TG, TC, HDL, LDL, VLDL) and also to study the association between FTO (rs 9939609), glutathione-s-transferase and ACE (Angiotensin I-Converting Enzyme) genes with the development of T2DM in obese individuals in Iraqi population. The study included 300 individuals divided into three groups for the comparison; 100 person apparently health (control); 100 person obese non-diabetics and; 100 person obese-diabetics. The results revealed that obese T2DM individuals had higher values for lipid profile parameters measured, except for HDL, compare to control. GSTT1 and GSTM1 genes affect the risk of T2DM, as higher frequencies of GSTM1-null and GSTT1-null polymorphisms was observed in DM patients compare to control. For ACE gene, the I/D polymorphism of the this gene may not affect the development of diabetes mellitus in at least the case study that we were conducted. However, a significant relationship between SNP of FTO gene and the risk of T2DM was observed. Frequencies of the TT and AT genotypes were higher in patients T2DM than that in control and obese non-diabetics, which indicate signification association in rs 9939609 polymorphism of FTO gene with T2DM. 2021, 85 pages Keywords: T2DM, GST, ACE, FTO
