Abstract (EN)

Aim: In this study, it is aimed to observe the changes in paraoxonase-1, nitric oxide and malondialdehyde levels as a result of weight loss by evaluating the physical and biochemical measurement results of obese and non-obese healthy female individuals and, thus helping in the diagnosis and follow-up of obesity. Method: The study included 40 (20 obese – 20 control) participants who wanted to receive nutritional counseling at the Healthy Life Center affiliated with the Odunpazarı District Health Directorate. Participants were classified using body mass index. All participants' physical examination measurements were measured by a dietitian with bioelectrical impedance analys device. Medical nutrition therapy was applied to individuals with body mass index ≥ 30 among the participants. All participants' glucose, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglyceride, uric acid, HbA1c, vitamin B12, ferritin, paraoxanase1, malondialdehyde, nitric oxide values were examined. All data were analyzed using the SPSS v15 program. Results: In our study, before medical nutrition treatment, obese individuals had higher body mass index, body fat, waist circumference, waist/hip ratio, glucose, HbA1c, triglyceride, LDL cholesterol, nitric oxide and malondialdehyde values compared to the healthy control group. After medical nutrition treatment, obese individuals had significantly lower body weight, body mass index, body fat, waist circumference and nitric oxide values. Other values also improved compared to before nutrition treatment, but did not create a statistically significant difference. Conclusion: The study supports that paraoxanase1, malondialdehyde, nitric oxide parameters may be indicators in the development of obesity, oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction. It is thought that it may be important to examine the changes in biochemical parameters in more groups as the weight loss rate provided by antiobesity treatment increases. Keywords: Obesity, paraoxanase1, malondialdehyde, nitric oxide, medical nutrition therapy, weight loss
