Abstract (EN)

Obesity is defined as excessive fat pooling in the body. Generally there is imbalance between taking and spending energy is point at issueIt has been aimed to help the obese individuals in the diagnosis of the obesity by defining the levels of nitric oxide, homocysteine, leptin and myoglobin. 30 healthy individuals and 30 obese individuals without any other illnesses have been selected for this studyComparison of plasma nitric oxide (NO) in obese individuals with that of controls was found to be statistically significantStatiscally significant difference was found between plasma homocysteine levels of obese individuals and that of normal subjects. Whereas no correlation was detected between homocysteine levels and age of obese and control group however weak and positive correlation was determined with genderStatiscally significant difference was found between plasma leptin levels of obese individuals and that of normal subjects. A weak positive correlation was determined between leptin levels and genderStatiscally significant difference was found between plasma myoglobin levels of obese individuals and that of normal subjects. A strong correlation in a negative way was determined when myoglobin is compared with the gender and ageHomocysteine concentration is related to the diet. There is a positive correlation between BMI and homocysteine. NO increased in the acute obese individuals. NO level is related to myoglobin levels and alters the myoglobin concentration. Leptin is an appetite hormone and organizes the energy expenditure. The further studies are needed to be done to define whether the obesity is because of the lack of leptin or leptin resistance. The reasons for the obesity, one of the most important illnesses of our time, have not been explained clearly yet. In the literature this is the first study to investigate the relationship between nitric oxide, leptin, homocysteine and myglobin parameters and obesity. Oxidative stress, NO, homocysteine, leptin and myoglobin levels in obesity increased; and the further studies are needed in defining whether they are the reasons or the results of the obesity.
