Examining automatic thoughts and perfectionism as predictors of obsessive beliefs

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to test the relationship between automatic thoughts, which is one of the basic concepts of cognitive behavioral therapy approach and perfectionism, which has been found to be associated with obsessive compulsive disorder in various studies, with obsessive beliefs. The sample of the study consists of 219 people who were between 18-65 years, 135 female, 83 male, 1 other selected by easy sampling. The Demographic Questionnaire, Obsessive Beliefs Scale-44, Automatic Thoughts Scale and Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale were used for research analysis. Data were collected online. SPSS 22.0 program was used in the analysis of the data obtained from the scales. According to the findings of the study, it was found that there is a significant positive relationship between both automatic thoughts and perfectionism and obsessive beliefs separately that this relationship also exists between automatic thoughts and perfectionism. Besides, it was found that the parallel relationship is valid between all obsessive belief domains and automatic thought, perfectionism dimensions except the relation between over responsibility/threat estimation, importance/control of thoughts obsessive belief areas and order perfectionism dimension. According to another analysis, at least one automatic thought or perfectionism sub-dimension was found to be prominent in predicting obsessive beliefs. The theoretical strength of the relevant literature has been instrumental in planning and discussing it.
