Abstract (EN)
Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a widely seen disease that is characterised by air flow limitation caused by repetetive apnea and hypopnea attacks. It is estimated that hypoxic attacks seen in disease increase both oxidative stress and inflammation, and predisposition to atherosclerosis. The relation between oxidative stress and OSAS is shown in many studies, and cardiovasculary complications in OSAS patients are found to be related with oxidative stress and systemic inflammation. Similarly, many studies showed the relation between OSAS and cardiovasculary disease. Moreover, it is known that cardiovasculary complications accompanied by OSAS increase the morbidity and mortality. In our study it is aimed to show oxidative stress in OSAS patients, and to measure levels of some parameters (Reactive oxygen specises modulatory-1 (ROMO-1), copeptin, malondialdehit (MDA), total oxiidative stress (TOS), apolipoprotein E2 (APO- E2), lipoprotein related fosfolipaz A2 (Lp-PLA2)) that play role in developing atherosclerosis. It is determined that in OSAS patients oxidative stress load increased, levels of some parameters that play role in developing atherosclerosis increased, these negative results became more evident by increase in disease severity. In conclusion, OSAS is a disease that has a strong relation with oxidative stress and systemic inflammation. Oxidative stress and systemic inflammation observed in OSAS patients increases the morbidity and mortality by increasing cardiovasculary complications such as atherosclerosis.
