Evaluation of deep vein thrombosis frequency in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

Evaluation of Deep Vein Thrombosis Frequency in Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome Introduction and function: Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) „s deal with cerebrovascular and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality is known. The number of reports suggesting a causal relationship between OSAS and venous thromboembolism has been increasing in recent term.In this study investigating the frequency of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in OUAS facts is aimed. Method: In one year period consecutive 239 patients who applied to Düzce University School of Medicine Sleep Laboratory and were performed polisomnografi with OSAS prediagnosis were included in the study. D-dimer testing was performed in all cases. D-dimer (+) facts were evaluated with lower extremity doppler USG. Findings: The average age of cases were 52 ± 12 years and 31.8% (76/239) were female.Positive d-dimer rate findings were-in OUAS (-) facts %9,5 (6/63),in mild OUAS %8,8 (5/57), in medium OUAS %5,8 (2/34),in severe OUAS %17,6 (15/85).In severe OUAS facts D-dimer positivity (15/85) compared to all other facts (13/154) were significantly higher (17.6% and 8.4% respectively, p = 0.034).In severe OUAS d-dimer positivy risk increased 2,3 fold.Lower extremity doppler USG with DVT was detected in D-dimer (+) found 28 cases of 4 (%14,2) All the 4 cases with DVT were severe OUAS. In 17.6% (15/85) of all severe OSAS cases had positive D-dimer. Thrombosis was found in %4,7 (4/85) of severe OUAS cases.Frequency of thrombosis in D-dimer(+) severe OUAS was found %26,6 (4/15) Conclusion: The study's results indicate that severe OUAS may be an important risk factor for DVT.At the same time datas obtaining in this study suggest that it would be useful questioning DVT symptoms in severe OUAS patients,d-dimer searching and evaluation of d-dimer positive severe OUAS cases in terms of DVT prophylaxi Key words: Severity of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome, Deep Vein Thrombosis, D-dimer
