Narrators typology in Ödeşmeler ve Şahmeran Hikâyesi

İn classical narrative methods, the concept of narrator is examined or evaluated together with the point of view, depending on the grammatical structure like the first or third person. However, a new era beings with narrative science that emerged in the 1960s and examined narrative structures. Gerard Genette, on the leading names in narratology, distinguishes narrative voice (narrator) and narrative mode (focus) in his book Narrative Discource. According to him, narrators can be divided into two categories: "degree of inclusion" or "level of narration"; the perspectives are divided into three groups as "zero focus", "internal focus" and "external focus". Thus the narrator and focus are clearly separated with Genette. İn our country, although tradition of narrative and focus studies continue, this tradition has started to be broken with narrative studies which gained momentum in the last decade. İn the discipline which focuses on the genre of novel as a field of application, story analysis falls behind. Tomris Uyar, who started her summer life in 1965 and insisted on writing stories, published eleven-story books called İpek ve Bakır. İn this thesis, the stories in Tomris Uyar's book İpek ve Bakır, Ödeşmeler ve Şahmeran Hikâyesi, Dizboyu Papatyalar, Yürekte Bukağı, Yaz Düşleri Düş Kışları, Gece Gezen Kızlar, Yaza Yolculuk, Sekizinci Günah, Otuzların Kadını, Aramızdaki Şey and Güzel Yazı Defteri. İn this thesis, the stories in Tomris Uyar's book, Ödeşmeler ve Şahmeran Hikâyesi, are examined in terms of narrator's position, focus and relationship with time by using the narrative method. The stories discussed in the study were examined both singularly and in comparison with each other and similar and different aspects of the narrators were determined. İn addition, the narrative genre which was ignored in the narrative studies was brought to the forefront with the stories of Tomris Uyar by using the terminology of Gérard Genette.
