Certification of non-timber forest products according to FSC (forest stewardship council) system and silvicultural issues

Certification of non-wood forest products, whose importance has increased in recent years, according to well-known systems, especially contributes to accessing new markets. FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) forest management certification system, which started in 2010 in Turkish Forestry, is also one of the internationally recognized systems used in the certification of non-wood forest products. For this purpose, the aim of this study is to examine the indicators created for the certification of these products on the basis of our country. Under the FSC standard, Principle 1, the compliance of the NWFPs management with the legislation is evaluated, while in Principle 2, the occupational health and safety rules that must be followed during the NWFP harvest are emphasized. Principle 4 examines the role of local communities and relations with the community in the management of NWFPs. In Principle 5, the regulation and sustainability of NWFP utilization is discussed. Principle 6 focuses on environmental values and environmental impact in harvesting of NWFPs. While the planning of NWFP management is discussed in Principle 7, it is necessary to establish an effective monitoring system in Principle 8. Principle 10, on the other hand, controls how NWFPs will be taken into account in management system applications.
