Evaluation of physical education teachers based on student opinions

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the physical education teachers working in different cities of Turkey based on the opinions of the students studying physical education course. Materials and Methods: In this research, a screening model, one of the quantitative research approaches, was used. In the study, "Physical Education Teacher Assessment Scale Based on Student Opinions", developed by Kayışoğlu (2015), was conducted. The scale consists of 48 items and includes a 5-level Likert-type scale. In this study, in accordance with the purposive sampling method, 1078 participants were collected by simple random method from volunteer students in a secondary school and a high school where the most physical education teachers were employed in the cities in seven geographical regions. Results: As a result of the analyzes, it was seen that there was a significant difference in the negative behaviors dimension of the study participants according to student gender, general performance lesson performance and negative behaviors dimensions according to teacher gender. No significant difference was found in the course performance dimension according to school and age variables. In addition, there is no difference in the performance of the lesson according to school level and age. On the other hand, there was a significant difference in general performance, course performance and negative behaviors dimensions according to the class variable. Conclusion: It was seen that evaluation of physical education teachers based on students' opinions was highly positive in general performance and course performance dimensions and although it is not negative in the negative behaviors dimension, it is seen that there is a lower positive perception when evaluated together with other dimensions. According to this; As in many other research results, it can be said that middle and high school students have positive perceptions of physical education teachers.
