The impact of video films prepared by the students achievement on science and technology course teaching

Abstract (EN)

This research is aimed to address the impact of video films, within the scope of educational technology audio-visual tools, on students? academic achievement and their opinion while teaching seventh grade primary students "Force and Motion" subject on Science and Technology course. In this study, experimental design with pre-test and post-test control group was used. The study was carried out on 60 seventh grade primary students in Ankara Mamak Köşklüdere Primary School in the academic year 2011-2012. In this research 30 students of 7 / A class formed the experimental group and 30 students of 7 / B class formed the control group. The study investigates the impact of video films prepared by the students on the achievements and the opinions of the students. Achievement test which was configured based on expert opinions and developed by item analysis was applied on the experimental and control groups as pre-test and post-test. The questionnaire was applied as a post-test to determine students' perspectives on science and technology course. For the experimental group the courses were taught by the help of video films which were prepared by the students. Lessons in the control group were continued with the traditional method. At the end of the four weeks of the application, the achievement test and the questionnaire to determine students' perspectives on science and technology lesson were applied to experimental and control groups as a final test. The data obtained were analyzed with SPSS 15 software. Binary independent and dependent t-test comparisons were made in order to determine whether the application caused any difference between the two groups or not. As a result of the research results obtained by the students in the courses using video films, video films used (classical teaching methods used in) lessons after the last test students' overall achievements of the unit where significant differences emerged in favor of the experimental group. In addition, the views of students looking for science and technology courses, students, video films prepared by the students in the experimental group used a more positive view of science and technology is developed.
