National identity awareness in students and the impact of TR Revolution History lesson on national awareness acquisition

Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to measure the national identity consciousness of high school students and state the effects of training Turkish Republic History Revolution and Kemalism subject to the national identity consciousness acording to students' views. The views relating to the Turkish Republic History Revolution and Kemalism subject's role of having the national identity consciousness have been observed and seen that there are discrepancies between the views that changes according to geographical regions and kind of school that students study and also gender variations of the students. In the research screening model was used. 984 11th grade students in 2013-2014 academic year identified from two different kinds of seven high schools and studied different branches in seven regions of Turkey are the sample of this study. A questionnaire with 32 questions was carried out to determine the views of the students. The datas were analyzed by using statistical package for the social sciencies (SPSS) programme. t-test and Tamhane's t-2 test of Post-hoc tests were made to state the differences between the groups. Considering the results obstained in the research, statistically there are meaningful differences between the students' answers which change according to the kind of school, the region and gender. As a result of the students' views, Turkish Republic History Revolution and Kemalism subject has positive effects and it is necessary for having national identity consciousness.
