The effect on out of school lessons success for students of social media usage purpose

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this survey is to find out the effects of the lesson success of the students who use the social media out of school. Totally 377 students who are fifth and sixth grades, studyingin Şemsettin Karahisari Secondary School between 2013-2014 Academic Year, participated in this survey. In the theoretical part of the survey; internet, social media, learning and lesson success were scanned with its litareture as forthe practice part. The students demografic features and the students, using the social media out of school, were taken a poll about the effects of students' academic success at school. The differences, in there lation between the students demografic feature sand the usage of social media were observed as the result of this survey. In there lation, between students using the social media and the lesson success, the ones who use Blog Microblog(Twitter), Podcast and Virtual Worlds(Knight Online, WOW, Second Life) had a very weak negative relation betweeen success in Maths, was defined. Blog had a very weak negative relation betweeen success in Turkish and English, was defined Hence, the social media used by the students out of school, had even a very little negative effect to the academic success in Turkish, Maths and English was appeared. Also, the social media, the students using out of school, had no effects forthe other lessons which are Science, Social Sciences and İnformation Teknology and Software was appeared.
