Abstract (EN)

Education is an indispensable element that all societies work on and strive to heal. Well-educated and well-equipped children in every way are the guarantees of the future of the countries. The activities of the students in their time in school as well as their activities in the non-school hours are part of their development. Children get most of their harmful habits will drop them in disadvantaged positions in off-school hours. Having parent's the ability to effectively guide their children's education and using social and cultural capital in this way positively affects children's bio-psycho-social development. Support for parents who are inadequate in this issue can be realized with the scope of school social services. It is thought that many problems of children can be solved or even prevented by school social service applications. In this research; free time activities have been evaluated from many perspectives on the benefit of children. The universe of study is the first-year students and parents in the high schools attached to the Sakarya National Education Directorate. Sakarya City Serdivan and Adapazarı Counties were selected and the opinions and experiences of the children and their parents about the free time activities of the students were investigated by the applied surveys. Survey findings were systematized with SPSS 22.00 statistical program. The frequencies, chi-square tests, correlations between the questions of the obtained findings were evaluated and interpreted. In addition, a social experiment was conducted with nine students from sixth class students who had various problems in the school environment. In the experiment, the students were allowed to go to the courses, they would like to participate in their free time, and it was aimed to eliminate their problems by making individual interviews and group interviews with children and their parents and very positive results were obtained. The interpretation of the data reveals that the socioeconomic status of the parents, their level of pay attention to their children, and the free time of their children with appropriate activities for their interests have been found to positively influence their personality development and academic achievement.
