Teachers' opinions on supporting teaching activities with different materials during the education process

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is determined as examining teachers' opinions on supporting teaching activities with various materials during the teaching process. The study group of the research is 23 teachers working in different branches in public schools affiliated with the Osmaniye Provincial Directorate of National Education, by using criterion sampling which is one of the purposeful sampling methods. The data obtained with the semi-structured interview form prepared by the researcher of this study. During the data collection process, teachers held face-to-face interviews. As a result of the interviews, the answers given by the teachers were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The data obtained were collected under the themes of "type of material, reason for choosing materials, ways to access materials, criteria for selecting materials, material design, material development, problems or difficulties encountered, suggestions for solutions to problems encountered, contributions of materials to teaching and changes to be made in the education program. It was determined that the majority of the participants used digital materials while supporting teaching activities during the teaching process. It was mentioned that the most frequently used digital materials are smart boards, presentations, animations, and videos. The most frequently mentioned theme under the reason for choosing materials was facilitating learning. It was concluded that the majority of the participants accessed the materials through the Ministry of National Education. It has been determined that teachers mostlyattend to the criterion of being suitable for the learning outcomes when choosing materials. Also, research shows that most of the participants do not design or develop materials. When the participants supported the teaching activities with dissimilar materials during the teaching process, they informed that they experienced inadequacy of school facilities, technical inadequacies, students' lack of financial resources, problems with materials, lack of time, and problems related to the course. As a solution to the problems, most participants stressed that the support of the Ministry of National Education is essential. Participants stated that the materials contribute to education as facilitating teaching, increasing readiness, success, and motivation, providing concrete and permanent learning, enriching the lesson and ensuring active participation. Majority of the participants stated that the training program needs to be organized; should be simplified, activities should be increased, and the textbook should be enriched.
