Abstract (EN)

In this research, it was aimed to determine the relationship between faculty members' perceptions of their academic titles and job stress. For this aim, it was the basis of the study to determine the factors affecting the faculty members' perceptions regarding their titles and to examine the relationship between these factors and job stress. The research in which quantitative method was employed was designed in the survey model. The sample of the research consisted of faculty members working at ten public universities. In deciding the sampling, the criteria related to the universities such as the year of establishment, geographical region, faculty diversity, number of faculty members by different titles were taken into consideration. The data of the study were collected via two scales which were "Scale of Academic Title Perception" developed by the researchers and "Scale of Academicians' Job Stress" developed by Balcı. The data obtained were analyzed by frequency and percentage values, t-test, ANOVA, correlation and regression analysis. As a result of the research, there were not found any statistically significant differences between faculty members' perceptions and their genders, academic titles, academic seniorities and university they work at. Whereas, a significant difference was found in terms of their titles and subject areas; perceptions of the faculty members differentiated by components of the Scale of Academic Title Perception. Likewise, there were not any statistically significant differences between the faculty members' perceptions regarding their job stress levels and their academic seniorities, their subject areas and the universities they work at. However, there was a significant difference between their genders, titles and seniorities. Moreover, there was a significant negative correlation between the academic title perceptions of the faculty members and their levels of job stress. According to the results obtained in the research, the faculty members' perceptions of academic titles and the components of the titles were found to be a significant predictor of the level of job stress and there was a significant negative correlation between them. In line with the findings and conclusions of the research, suggestions were made to make the necessary arrangements to be implemented as soon as possible for the faculty members to have a more positive perceptions of their titles, not to compare their academic titles with other titles and to reduce their levels of job stress.
