Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the environmental literacy level and ecological footsprint of pre-service teachers. In this study, the descriptive research design was used by collecting descriptive data from teacher candidates through a questionnaire. The study was conducted with the participation of the students enrolled in Elementary Science Education, Classroom Teaching, Early Childhood Education, and Turkish Language Education teacher training programs of Amasya University at the end of the spring semester of 2013. In this study, Environmental Literacy Questionnaire, which includes environmental knowledge, attitude, usage, and interest factors, and Ecological Footsprint Calculation Scale were administered to teacher candidates. The data obtained from the study was analyzed using SPSS 18.0 software. According to the results of the study, it is identified that environmental knowledge levels of teacher candidates are insufficient, but their attitude toward environment, usage, and interest are at a desired level. The calculations for ecological footsprint indicate that the ecological footsprints of teacher candidates are quite high. The results also revealed that environmental literacy factors are not significant predictors for the ecological footsprint of teacher candidates.
