Search of teacher candidates? towards enviromental consciousness due socio-culturel and economic variabl

In this study relations between the education department effects on environment consciousness and the type of department which students graduated, educationel level, jobs and living places of students? parents is studied.Samples of study are from 110 male (%42.9) and 146 female (%57.1), totally 256 students of Abant Izzet Baysal University in 2006-2007 academic year.In this study adaptation workings are done to environmental conscious scale formed by Ak, Keser and Öznur (2006) which is applied to preservice teachers. After completed adaptation studies for Environmental Conscious Scale, Likert Type Scale with 7 options was prepared. Having finished the adaptation workings, environmantal conscious scale which is composed of fifty three ( 53) item and six (6) sub main factor. These are; Taste of Nature ( 9 items), Environmental Actions (9 items), Environmental Threats (10 items), Benefit From Nature by Humans (10 items), Trust on Science and Technology (8 items) and Supporting the Policies About population Growth (7 items). The options for answering the scales are ranked from1 (absolutely not agree) to 7 (absolutely agree) and the negative definitions were coded by reversing.To determine the effect of each independent variable on the dependent variable in the statistical analysis of the data, the variance analysis (ANOVA) was used. For the effected factors on environmental conscious frequency tables is used.Due to findings Environment Conscious Scale (ECS) total analysis considered; Primary School Department students have higher environmental conscious which graduated at higher level high schools(Science High Schools,Colleges and Public High Schools). Significant differences obtained between jobs of parents of students and environmental conscious. Educational levels of parents and students? environmental conscious are directly proportional. Living in populous places has positive effect students? environmental conscious.In study students` environment consciousness is not effected from environmental lessons. Due to this study Primary School Department students are not interested in environmental publication and TV programmes. In all educational departments attendance of students needs to be encouraged in environmental activities.
