Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted to examine the relationship between teacher candidates' communication skills and humor styles according to various variables. The study group of the research consists of 862 teacher candidates studying at the Faculty of Education of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University in the 2022-2023 academic year. Relational screening model was used in the research. The data of the research were collected with the "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher, the "Communication Skills Scale" developed by Korkut-Owen and Bugay (2014), and the "Humor Styles Scale" adapted into Turkish by Yerlikaya (2003). SPSS 26.00 statistical package program was used in the analysis of the data. Frequency and percentage analysis for demographic variables and descriptive statistics were calculated to interpret the scale items statistically. In order to determine whether the mean scores of the communication skills scale and humor styles scale sub-dimensions show a significant difference according to the two-category variables, the Independent Samples T test, one of the parametric tests; One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed according to variables with more than two categories. Post Hoc Tukey test was used to determine between which groups there was a significant difference as a result of ANOVA analysis. The communication skills of the teacher candidates are at a high level; It was concluded that they preferred Participatory Humor and Self-Enhancing Humor styles more than Destructive and Aggressive Humor styles. Between Communication Skills and Participatory Humor sub-dimension, "low" was positively significant; Among the Self-Enhancing Humor sub-dimensions, "moderate" was positively significant; Among the Aggressive Humor sub-dimension, "low" was negatively significant; A positive and significant relationship was found at the "low" level between the Self-Destructive Humor sub-dimension.
