Examining the social responsibility levels and views of teacher candidates against global problems

The purpose of this research is to examine the levels of global social responsibility and views of teacher candidates regarding global problems. In the research, scanning model was used to determine the levels of global social responsibility. In the qualitative research, a form with five open-ended questions was used. The global social responsibility scale developed by Başer (2015) was used while determining the "levels of global social responsibility related to global problems", which is the main problem of the research. The global social responsibility scale was applied to 460 pre-service teachers working in the departments of pre-school teaching, classroom teaching, social studies teaching and Turkish teaching at İnönü University. Since global problems are given a wider place in the Social Studies course curriculum and Social Studies teaching undergraduate program, the qualitative research form was applied only to Social Studies teacher candidates in order to obtain detailed information. During the analysis of the data, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), multiple comparison test (Post-Hoc), independent groups t-test and content analysis techniques were used. When the findings are examined, it can be said that the global social responsibility levels of the candidates are high. A significant difference was found according to the education program, gender and field of interest variables. A significant difference was found in the national responsibility sub-dimension according to the class variable, and in the action-oriented responsibility and national responsibility sub-dimensions according to the source of information variable. However, there was no significant difference according to the variables of residence, mother's education level, father's education level, family monthly income and knowledge level.
