The relationship between reading and writing attitudes of teacher candidates (Muş Alparslan University sample)

The main objective of this study is to find out the level of the reading and writing attitudes of teacher candidates. When the effects of teachers of students considered, it will be seen that teachers take on prominent tasks in the formation of the reading and writing attitudes. In this study, in order to define the reading and writing attitudes of the teachers candidates of Muş Alparslan University, "Reading and Writing Attitude Scale" which contains 50 questions was applied. Whether the attitudes of teacher candidates differ according to gender, subject or the level of study and the relationship between these were detected towards the results of scale. The study was intended for the teacher candidates of Turkish, Mathematics, Science and Social Science Teaching departments. According to the result of the study, when the factor of gender is considered, it is observed that there is not a prominent difference between male and female students. The reading and writing attitude of male and female students have the same tendency. When the factor of subject is examined, it was observed that the level of reading and writing attitudes of Turkish Teaching Department is higher than Mathematics and Science Teaching Departments. When the factor of the level of study is considered, an important difference was not found. Key Words: reading attitude, writing attitude, attitude, the students of faculty of education
