The investigation of the candidate teachers inquiry skills and metacognivite awareness levels

The aim of this theisis study is to investigate the candidate teachers inquiry skills and metacognitive awareness levels; to determine whether it differentiatesor not in in terms of varios variables. Bresides, revealing the relationship between inquiry skills and metacognitive awareness was aimed. In quantitatively designed research descriptive model was used. In data collection,"Inquiry skills scales" deleveloped by Karademir (2013) and "Metacognitive awareness (UFAR) scale" by Duman (2013) were used. In theanalysis of data, SPSS 20 package program was used. To determine wheter teacher candidates inquiry skillsdetermine differentiate or not in terms of teacher gender variable and class variable, independentgroups t test; in examination of department variable the ANOVA and Scheffe test was used to reveal the affect of department variation.Results of study estimates that; the level "information acquisition" is on high level in terms of "information control" and "self-confidence", but is on average level in terms of "information acquisition". İnquiry skills of teacher candidates are not differentiate in terms of "information control" and "self-confidence" on gender, but in terms of "information control" male teacher candidates differentiates positively. Based on "class variation", this study investigates that 1. class students' level is higher than 4. class students in terms of "information assessment level and is less than 4. class students level in terms of "checking information level" and "self reliance level". Additionally,"investigation abilities of teacher candidates" is on highest level in terms of "arrangement level" and "evaluation level" and on the least level in terms of "motivation level".Metacognitive awareness of teacher candidates is differentiates on "information acquisition", "information control", "self-confidence ", "regulation", and "motivation" based on gender. Level of awareness of classroom teacher candidates and Turkish language teacher candidates is higher than Math teacher candidates' awareness level. Besides to this,"control" of classroom teacher candidates, social science teacher candidates and Turkish language teacher candidates is higher than math teacher candidates' level of reviewing. On the other hand, "regulation" of math teacher candidates is higher than classroom teacher candidates' level of arrangement.
