Abstract (EN)

The concept of career involves the works that the workers perform during their professional lives, developments and progress at their professional lives or specialisation in a profession may define the concept of career. By taking into account the career ladders that the Ministry of Education began to implement with the regulation in 2005 and variety of criteria, the teachers have been given the titles of specialist teachers and head teachers. The concept of career is directly related to the concepts of motivation and organisational commitment. In addition to loving and being loved, people want to be respected, too. After meeting the needs of basic physiologic and safety and then love and belonging, people want their needs of recognition, having social position and statue, achieving success, being appreciated and respected etc. to be met. Along with the motivation taking place among the members of organisation at a high level can increase their sincere devotion to organisation.To reveal the relation of career ladders implementation to teacher motivation and organisational commitment, Career Planning, Motivation and Organisational Commitment Scales have been applied to 427 participants working at 17 primary schools in the central province of Elazığ and its districts. obtained results from the scales are ;Career Ladders Implementation is accepted by the teachers at mid-level. The teachers participated in this research believe that this implementation increase the teachers? professional knowledge and the competition among the teachers. Career ladders implementation also contributes moderately positive to providing new opportunities for teachers. When looking at the averages of opinions related to the proficiency of career ladders scale (the quota allocated for head teachers and specialist teachers at career planning is sufficient, the exam is sufficient in terms of its content, the service years (10%), the in-service activities (10%), the record score (10%) the criteria attects total score is sufficient), teachers generally find the criteria applied in career planning implementation as inadequate.When looking at the results of the research, specialist teachers? intrinsic motivation is higher than teachers? at the normal statue. Starting with this point, it can be said that career ladders implementations increase teachers? intrinsic motivation. When comparing in terms of the emotional commitment levels, the ones at the statue of specialist teacher are higher than those at the normal statue.There is a positive relationship available between career planning implementation?s teacher dimension and intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, normative commitment, emotional commitment and continuance commitment. For teacher, the relationship between career planning and extrinsic motivation is higher than other variables. This shows that, the implementation of career ladders have been by teachers accepted as an important indicator.Key Words: Career, Motivation, Organisational Commitment
