Determination of nutrition literacy levels of teachers and teacher candidates and teachers' vies on healthy nutrition

Abstract (EN)
There are two interrelated objectives of this research. The first aim is to determine nutrition literacy levels of the teacher candidates who are studying at the Faculty of Education of Kastamonu University and the teachers who work in the schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. The second aim is to reveal the opinions of teachers participating in the research on healthy nutrition. For these purposes, the study is structured in the form of synchronous mixed patterns from mixed method patterns. The qualitative dimension of this design is a questionnaire consisting of open-ended questions and the quantitative dimension is a questionnaire technique frequently used in the screening model. A total of 3308 teacher candidates studying at Kastamonu University Faculty of Education during 2017-2018 academic year constituted the universe of the research student's candidate section, while 894 teacher candidates constituted the sample with a 95% confidence level and the size of the universe. The teacher part is composed of 1225 teachers working in the central district of Kastamonu province in 2017-2018 academic year and the sample of 125 teachers according to the level of 95% confidence level and the size of the universe. For the qualitative data of the study, 45 teachers are chosen. As a result of the research, it was determined that the nutrition literacy of teacher candidates varied according to gender, body mass index and education level of mother. Teachers' nutritional literacy varies only with the educational status of their parents. Teachers' views on healthy nutrition, on the other hand, are mainly focused on balanced and regular nutrition concepts.
