Abstract (EN)

The research aims to understand and determine the perceptions of teachers who have experienced earthquakes about presenteeism behavior, the triggers and effects of presenteeism behavior, and the methods of coping with these effects. In the study, a case study design was adopted to collect qualitative data. The study group of the research consists of 17 teachers working in Antalya province who experienced the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes dated 06.02.2023. "Snowball or chain" sampling method was used in the selection of the study group. The data were collected through a semi-structured individual interview form prepared according to the literature review and expert opinions and analyzed by descriptive analysis method. According to the results of the study, it was seen that the conceptual perceptions of the participant teachers who experienced an earthquake about presenteeism behavior were in the direction of affect and action-related presenteeism. While the triggers of the presenteeism behavior of the participant teachers were revealed in the context of individual, organizational and environmental triggers, the effects of presenteeism behavior were evaluated in the context of individual and organizational effects. Participant teachers' views on methods of coping with presenteeism behavior were examined in the context of individual efforts, preventive and inclusive measures of authorities, social solidarity and understanding sub-themes. With this analysis, it was tried to identify and understand the triggers, effects and coping methods of earthquake-induced presenteeism behavior for teachers. In addition, teachers' cognitive simulacrums of presenteeism behavior were identified through the metaphors of teachers who have experienced earthquakes about presenteeism behavior.
