Abstract (EN)
This thesis aimed at revealing the relationship between teachers? job satisfaction level and stress level. The study introduces findings from the questionnaire, interpretations and suggestions for future studies.The universe of the study was composed of the teachers at the schools in Zeytinburnu, İstanbul. The sample of the study constituted 397 teachers randomly selected from 5 Elementary Schools, 2 Regular High Schools, 1 Anatolian High School, 4 Vocational High Schools.In the current study, the findings related to teachers? job satisfaction and stress level have been obtained through a questionnaire. Data collection instruments used in the study were a Researcher Personal Information Form, Minnesota Job Satisfaction Inventory Short Form and Stress Scale, which were in the form of Likert-type Scale. The data that was gathered from the participants was analyzed by using SPSS statistics program. The findings of the questionnaire were interpreted through percentages and frequency distributions and the results of t-test and One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). P < 0.05 significance level was taken into consideration to identify the significance of the analyses.Results of the study revealed that there is significant difference between job satisfaction internal factors and the variables of gender, type of the institution, marital status, branch, job choice. There is also significant difference between job satisfaction external factors and the variables of gender, type of the institution, marital status, branch, job choice, work experience and school experience. There is no significant difference between the age variable and job satisfaction factors. The results also revealed that according to the stress factors, there is significant difference between administration problems factor and the type of the institution, age, working experience and school experience; between compensation and occupational problems factors and work experience; between student problems and daily problems factors and the type of the institution; between teaching problems factor and gender and the type of the institution; between daily problems factor and school experience; between stress factor and work experience.According to the findings in terms of job satisfaction, women, the married, elementary school second grade teachers, graduates of the two years teacher training colleges and ınstitues, the teachers between the ages of 20-25, sports teachers, the ones who chose the job by their own will, the ones who have work and school experience of 21 years and above have more job satisfaction.In terms of stress conditions, women, vocational school teachers, the teachers with a master?s degree, the ones who are 41 or older, fine arts teachers, the ones who didn?t choose the job by their own will, the ones who have work and school experience of 11-20 years have higher stress.Finally, it has been found out that there is inverse correlation between stress and job satisfaction, that is, when stress increases job satisfaction decreases. In the final part of the study are some recommendations in order to increase job satisfaction level of teachers and reduce their stress level.Key Words: Job Satisfaction, Stress, Teachers?
