Examination of teachers' perfectionism and self-compassion levels in terms of various factors

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between perfectionism and self-compassion levels. In this survey, 310 teachers who work different types of the secondary schools at Gaziantep province in the education terms of 2017-2018 are participated. "The Multidimensional Scale" and "Self-compassion Scale" are used in the survey. The data of the survey are obtained with applying the ANOVA, t Test and Pearson Correlation" to the text candidates. When it is looked in to the results; the total perfectionism scores showed significant differences according to gender and marital status. It is concluded that female teachers are more perfectionist than male, and married teachers are more perfectionist that single ones. No significant difference was found in total self-compassion's scores. When the subscales of the perfectionism are looked into; the significant differences have been coming across in the subscale of the "order" according to genders; in "the concern over-mistakes" subscale according to the genders, ages, marital status and working experiences, in the "parental criticism" subscale according to ages; in the "personal standards" subscale according to the genders and in the "doubts about actions" according to the study fields. As for the self-compassion's subscales are concerned; the reasonable differences are detected in the subscale of the "self kidness" according to the ages and working experiences; in the scale of the "isolation" according to the study fields. Positive and low level correlation has been reasonably gauged between the teacher's perfectionisms and self-compassions. Key words: Perfectionism, Self-compassion, teachers.
