Instructor's motivation for pursuing a teaching profession and their life-long learning inclination (Example of Kocaeli province)

This research aims to explore the relationship between the motivation level of instructors working in Kocaeli city center and central district regarding teaching profession and their life-long learning inclination, examine the perpection of life-long learning, and propose suggestions to increase the participation. The notion of life-long learning and motivation is addressed from differend perspectives. In this respect, the proficiency required to educate life-long learners according to the 21st century necessities as well as the importance of the instructors to become life-long learners are covered. The population of this research is 3449 instructors who has worked in the official institutions located in Kocaeli city center, the Ministry of Education, during the 2021-2022 education year. Data are selected via cluster sampling method. Data are obtained via forms filled by face to face to face interviews. Prior to this research, an extensive literatüre search is conducted. As a means of data collection, "Lile-Long Learning Inclination Metric" devised by Gür Erdoğan and Arsal, "Instructor's Profession Motivation Metric"(2016) devised by Karabağ Köse, Karataş, Küçükçene and Taş "Personnal Information Sheet"(2020) created by the researcher are used. Instructor's Life-Long learning inclination and motivation towards their profession are analyzed for a substantial diffrence based on diffrent variables, including gender, age, social status, educational level, willingness to pursue a Master's education, rank and status at profession, child status, recruitment type, institution type, socioeconomic level of the student profile at the institution. Data obtained are analyzed via SPSS-Windows program. During data analysis, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Mann Withney U, Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman rank-diffrence correlation coefficent and simple linear regression analysis methots are implemend and ,05 signifiance level is taken as a basis while interpreting the results. As a result of the analysis, instructor's life-long learning inclination is observed at high level. In addition to this, it is also observed that; instructors's life-long learning inclination and gender variables give a positively significant correlation at female instructors; age, social status, educational level, willingness to pursue a Mater's education, rank and status at profession, child status, recruitment type, ,institution type, socioeconomic level of the institution and location of the institution don't yield a statistically significant difference. Furthermore, it is also detected that; instructor's motivation level at profession and socioeconomic level of the institution's location result a significant difference; gender, age, social status, educational level, willingness to pursue a Master's education, rank and status at profession, child status, recruitment type, institution type and location of the the institution variables are not different significantly, instructor's motivation level and their life-long learning inclination are positively significantly correlated.
