The effect of teachers' organizational commitment levels on presenteeism

Abstract (EN)

Current modern business life requires employers to value job efficiency as key performance indicator of organizational targets. The quantity and quality of the products and services produced during working hours by employees has greater value for employers than to be present at work. It is determined that cost of presenteeism raised after 1960s and consequences of these behaviours is more than absence of employee for the organization. In this study 417 teachers posted in İstanbul Ataşehir province state schools with various gender, age, experience, marital status has been chosen as sampling group. Participants are asked to fill out an abridged edition of presenteeism survey drafted by Stanford University and organizational commitment survey by Meyer and Allen. The results are processed and analysed through a statistical analysis package program. Through the analysis the effect of organizational commitment on presenteeism is examined. The level of presenteeism of teachers is determined as intermediate level independent of demographic characteristics of participants. Positive correlation is determined between organizational commitment and presenteeism behaviours. It is also determined that experienced teachers have more tendency to show presenteeism behaviours than other participants.
