Determination of teachers' strategies for coping with cyberbullying and their general health status

The aim of this study is to examine teachers' strategies for coping with cyberbullying and their general health status. This descriptive study was conducted with primary and secondary school teachers affiliated to the Alaca District Directorate of National Education between December 2023 and February 2024 (n=199). During the research dates, teachers were visited in their schools and a survey form was administered by face-to-face interview method. The content of the survey form included socio -demographic characteristics of teachers (age, gender, place of residence, professional seniority, marital status, smoking and alcohol use, perceived health status, presence of chronic disease), as well as "Teachers' Coping with Cyberbullying Strategies Scale" and "General Health". survey" was included. The research was conducted in accordance with the Helsinki Principles and ethical approval was obtained from the Hitit University Non-Interventional Ethical Research Board (2023/19). The data of the research were analyzed with SPSS 22.0 program. Percentage and median were used for descriptive variables in the analyses. Chi-square test was used to analyze categorical variables, and Spearman Correlation analysis was used to examine the relationship between variables. In the evaluations, p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. 61.8% of the participants are women, 58.8% are between the ages of 31-40 and 73.9% are married. The general health condition of 31.2% of the participants is risky. It was determined that 50.3% of the participants had high perceptions in the field of knowledge and 50.8% in the field of application. 43.9% of women and 10.5% of men received five or more points from the scale, and the difference between the scores obtained from the GHQ-28 scale according to gender was found to be statistically significant (p <0.001). When the scores obtained from the scale were examined according to marital status, it was determined that 46.2% of singles and 23.9% of married people received 5 or more points from the scale (p<0.05). The rate of those who scored five or more from the scale was 41.3% in those with 10 years or less of experience, 22% in those with 11-20 years of experience, and 24% in those with 21 years or more (p<0.05). In the research group, 51.4% of those with chronic disease and 26.8% of those without had a score of five or more on the scale (p<0.05). 54.1% of non-smokers and 39.4% of smokers scored below 85 in the application area (p<0.05). In the knowledge domain of the cyberbullying coping strategies scale, 13% of those with high perception and 49.5% of those with low perception received five or more points from the GHQ-28 scale. 19.8% of those with high perception in the field of application and 32.9% of those with low perception received five or more points on the GHQ-28 scale. The distribution of the scores obtained by the participants from the knowledge and application domain of ÖSZBÇSQ according to their general health status showed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). It was determined that the relationship between the knowledge domain and the scores obtained from the application domain was positively significant (r: 0.888; p: < 0.001). Conclusion As a result, it may be recommended to conduct screenings to determine the general health status of teachers and to increase training programs to raise awareness about cyberbullying as a result of these scans.
