The analysis of teachers?joining to sport activities in their leisure times

This study has been done to investigate how often and how the teachers working at primary schools in the center of Sakarya join to sport activities in their leisure times. At the end of this study, it was aimed to organize leisure time activities better and to raise teachers? job efficiency.For this purpose, a questionnaire including 27 questions which was prepared as a result of a wide literature search was applied to 99 female and 101 male teachers working at primary schools in the centre of Sakarya.Percentage and frequency distribution of datas obtained from questionnaires were found,Cross tabulation and ki-square method in ? =0.05 signifance level were used for some questions and ? ? =0,86??reliability co-efficient for the whole of questionnaire was found.SPSS 16 statistic programme was used for the evaluation of datas and for the finding of calculated values.According to this research,it is stated that most of the teachers have half-day leisure times but they do not join leisure time activities sufficiently, %75 of female teachers and %50 of male teachers have negative opinions in the rates of doing and watching sport, most of female teachers giving a positive answer to this question prefer sport events like walking, swimming in a low rate, step-aerobic and cycling, and male teachers generally prefer walking and football and in low rates swimming and jogging outside areas.It was confirmed that female teachers as a reason of not to do sport give their opinions on indolence and negligence, having no suitable friend or areas, and male teachers give their opinions on indolence and negligence and also having no areas to do sport.As a result, it was determined that teachers working in the centre of Sakarya have enough leisure time and they do not have much economical problems, but however both having no sport areas and suitable friends to do sport and also indolence and negligence as the most important reason keep them from doing sport in their leisure times.It is the duty of ?In School Physical Education, Sport and Scouting Unit? working in the structure of National Education to provoke teachers in terms of doing sport in their leisure times. This unit can organize tournaments for teachers which are similar to the ones organized for students in schoolterm.In this way, in Sakarya city which is not in a bad condition in terms of sport areas, our teachers can find opportunity to do sports in different sport events between schools, branches and towns. Also, labor organizations, municipalities and private establishments can help to this unit.
