Teachers perceptions related to managers proficiency with respect to gender

The 12 years of gradual education is divided into three periods, each consisting of four years. The first period is arranged as 4 year long primay school (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade), the second period is arranged as 4 year long middle school ( 5th,6th,7th and 8th grade), and the third period is arranged as 4 year long high school (9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade). This new structuring has brought along a few changes in school administrators' role, missions, responsibilities. As a result of the undergraduate and master's degree educations provided in universities, our teachers' professional literacy and proficiency are taken to higher levels. Education directors are not only expected to have the same proficiency but they are also expected to exceed this required level of proficiency. The starting point of this research is determine the proficiencies that is expected from the director to perform his job to the fullest and to keep pace with the changing systems. This research is organized in accordance to descriptive survey model as it is aimed to pinpoint the situation including the level of proficiencies of the administrators who are working in primary and middle schools, A survey is developed and conducted in compliance with the research's target. The information gathered from the survey has been subjected to statistical process with the SPSS 16 package software, and the results are shown in the findings section as charts. The teachers who are working in public and private primary and middle schools in Ümraniye, Ataşehir and Çekmeköy – the disctricts in Istanbul- form the center of the research. Random sample method is used while determining a sample in the research. 246 teachers who worked during the 2013-2014 school year in the above mentioned districts make up the sample of the research. Subjects that show meaningful differences are detected from the t-tests that are done according to the variance of the teachers' gender, type of school they work in, work environment, professional seniority, type of school they graduated from, age, the gender of the administrators and the one-way analyses of variance (ANOVA).
