Abstract (EN)

Humans are born with a unique and well-founded language phenomenon. Being not solely rational by nature, humans can transfer an image formed in their minds to the individuals with whom they are in communication, or to lexical or syntactic structures that come out of their pens, through linguistic signs that serve to understand concrete concepts that have been designed. Abstract concepts that cannot be visualized in the mind are also conveyed through linguistic signs. Having a very complex and multidimensional structure and being in the spiritual category, emotions are seen in every language and are one of the abstract concepts conveyed by certain linguistic indicators. The primary purpose of the study is to show how and to what extent Turkish can describe emotions, in the context of Oğuz Atay's novel Tutunamayanlar, through a classification based on a semantic basis and via emotional codes from linguistic signs. Emotions, which constitute an abstract process that continues uninterruptedly from the moment of birth to the moment of death, formed within the framework of the language-mind relationship, have been tried to be embodied with lexical structures, and syntactic structures have been used in cases where affixes and lexical structures are not sufficient. Emotion codes, which are handled on a contextual basis, have two main titles: Lexical Emotion Codes and Syntactic Emotion Codes, according to the semantic value they gain in the syntactic structure they witness, and they are classified under twelve sub-headings as pride, trust, fear, happiness, hatred, anger, love, distress, surprise, disgust, shame, and sadness. In light of the data obtained, the study tries to show which emotion is explained with which codes, and how it is coded, in semantic integrity by questioning the current emotion concept.
