Evaluation of the role and responsibilities of school principals and the selection and training process

The main purpose of this study is to determine the views of faculty members working in the field of educational administration, school administrators and Ministry of National Education administrators on the selection and training of school administrators. For this purpose, the research was designed according to the basic qualitative research design with the qualitative research method. The interviews were conducted based on the semi-structured interview form created by the researcher. According to the research findings obtained through descriptive analyzes, participant views were discussed under eight themes and 35 sub-themes. According to the prominent results of the research, bureaucratic works and physical improvements constitute the main preoccupations of school administrators. Although school administrators attach more importance to their instructional roles, they cannot allocate time to these tasks in proportion to this situation. School administrators' leadership roles and their roles in relations with the environment seem more important. In addition, the validity of the selection application is also questioned. Merit, leadership, effective communication and teaching experience are considered important among the qualifications that should be taken as a basis in the selection of school administrators. In addition, it is thought that there are uncertainties in the training of school administrators and that a standard cannot be achieved. Demands for the recognition of school management as a professional profession draw attention. In the light of the results of the study, various suggestions were presented to researchers, practitioners and policy makers.
