The relationship between school principals' management skills and school effectiveness

In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between school principals' management skills and school effectiveness according to teachers' perceptions. The research is a quantitative research and was conducted according to the relational screening model. The sample of the study consists of 350 teachers working in the Central District of Düzce Province Secondary Schools. A scale form was prepared by the researcher as a data collection tool. The "Management Skills Scale", which was developed by Quast and Hazucha (1992), adapted into Turkish by Şekerci and Aypay (2009), and whose validity and reliability studies were conducted, was used to measure management skills along with demographic questions containing personal information in the form. To measure school effectiveness, the "Perceived School Effectiveness Scale", developed by Wayne K. Hoy (2014) and adapted into Turkish by Yıldırım and Ada (2018), and whose validity and reliability studies were conducted, was used. The data were collected through the online form due to the COVID-19 epidemic, which is effective in the world and in Turkey. Since the data did not show normal distribution, Mann Whitney-U, Kruskal Wallis, correlation and regression analyzes were performed. As a result of the research, it was seen that there is a positive and significant relationship between school principals' management skills and school effectiveness according to teachers' perceptions. In addition, it was concluded that school administrators' management skills are a predictor of school effectiveness, according to teachers' perceptions. School effectiveness scores of teachers differ significantly according to the school types (secondary school and imam hatip secondary school). Suggestions were made within the framework of the results obtained from the research.
