Abstract (EN)
Preschool period is an important period in which different skill levels of children (cognitive, social, psychomotor, etc.) develop rapidly. For this reason, the materials (books, magazines, etc.) used in education and training given to children during this period are a guide for the later life of the child. Although there are many books for preschool children in our country, there are not many periodical journals published for this age group. The magazine that stimulates children's discovery, research and curiosity and meets the learning needs within these magazines is the Curious Minik magazine published monthly by TÜBİTAK. The main purpose of this study is to examine the effects of activities in TUBITAK's Meraklı Minik magazine on social skills and cognitive tempo social skills and cognitive tempo levels in preschool (48-60 months) children. Accordingly, the semi-experimental pattern with pretest-posttest control group was used in the research. In the research, Kansas Reflection- Impulsivity developed by Avcıoğlu (2007) to determine the social skills levels of preschool children was developed by the Social Skills Assessment Scale (PSAS) and Wright (1971) and adapted to Turkish by Seçer, Sarı, Çeliköz, Üre (2009). Scale for Preschool form was used. In the 2014-2015 academic year, it was carried out together with 40 children (4-6 years old) studying in 2 different classes of Bengi Kindergarten in Balıkesir province, Altıeylül district. During the academic year, the experimental group was applied activities in Curious Minik Magazine besides the curriculum of the Ministry of Education. In the pretest and posttest, the social skills and cognitive tempo levels of the children were measured and the results were compared with statistical experiments. According to the findings obtained in the analysis of the data; It was observed that the posttest scores obtained from the social and cognitive tempo scales of the children in the group in which the activities in the Meraklı Minik magazine were applied increased significantly compared to the posttest scores of the children in the control group.
