The effect of game-based piano education on learning in preschool children

This research was done with 5-year-old kindergarten students who were given piano training, which aimed to measure whether play has any affects in piano education. The study was done in the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. The study group of the research consists of 10 students, 5 of which were in the experimental group and 5 of which were in the control group, who were studying at Tokat Child World Practice Kindergarten. The study was carried out within a 30-minute class period per week for 10 weeks. In the research, game activities from the "Piano with Games" training set were applied to the experimental group. On the other hand, the control group was given the lectures by using the John Thompson Easy Piano Course book without giving the game effect. The success of the students was tested through post-tests after each lesson. The tests were assessed by 3 experts who evaluated the video of the students playing two works from the piano book. In the research, the data were obtained from the experimental and control groups. In addition, experimental-control group design was applied using the post-test. SPSS program was used in the data analysis measurement of the effect of game activities on students' previous and later learning situations. With the findings obtained as a result of the research, it has been concluded that Play-Based piano education has an important contribution to the piano education of 5-year-old children studying in kindergarten.
