Examining the needs of the families who have children in pre-school period in the support education process

The aim of this research is to investigate the needs of the families who have children in pre-school period in terms of gender, age, number of children, education status and income status in the support education process in special education and rehabilitation centers. The population of the study is composed of 132 children who have children aged 0-6 who attend 12 special education and rehabilitation centers within the borders of Battalgazi province of Malatya province in the 2018/2019 academic year. The study group of the research consisted of 121 parents, 71 parents and 50 fathers who volunteered to participate in the study. The data collection tool was developed by Bailey and Simeonsson Family Need Survey was adapted by Sucuoğlu and in addition to a personal information form was developed by the researcher to determine the demographic characteristics of the parents. Package programs which is frequently used in social sciences, was used in the analysis of the obtained data. For the homogeneity of variances Levene, Independent Sample T Test for independent groups, Single Factor Variance Analysis and Tukey Multiple Comparison Test were used to determine the differences between more than two groups. According to the findings of the study, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference in terms of gender variable for parents in the supportive education process of the families with children in the pre-period, while no difference was found for age, number of children. In addition, it was observed that the family needs differed in terms of educational status and income status. The data obtained from the findings were discussed in the results section and recommendations were made.
