Motherhood and fatherhood perception of parents having child in early childhood period

The aim of this research is to reveal motherhood and fatherhood perception of the parents having child in early childhood period. This research was conducted with a mixed research method in which qualitative and quantitative data were collected together and a concurrent transformative design. The sample consists of parents having young children in Ankara province and they selected by using snowball sampling method. "Parental Attitude Research Instrument" and "Personal Information Form" and "Interview Questions" developed by the researcher were used in interviews with parents. In the analysis of the data, the answers given by parents were examined and the coding was formed by the researcher and an early childhood education specialist. The themes are determined with the codes in common and they were analyzed by organizing. Quantitative data which obtained from the scale and personal information form were analyzed with SPSS 22.0 program. As a result of the analysis, parents' perceptions of motherhood-fatherhood were revealed and the relationship between parenting attitudes and the variables such as parents' age, education level and working status were examined. It was concluded that parents in the study have an altruistic grip on the perception of motherhood and fatherhood and they perceive parenting as a transition to adulthood.
