Assessment of the education process of refugee children in preschool and kindergarten education

In recent years, there have been mass emigration, especially from our neighbor Syria, along with the internal confusion in Middle Eastern countries. In addition to the political, economic and social reflection of these migrations to our country, it also brought up the problems in the current education system. The aim of this study is to determine the pre-school asylum seekers' educational process, their participation in the educational process and the problems experienced during this process. The research was designed with basic qualitative research method; The data were collected by semi-structured interview technique and observation. Five asylum-seeker students, four school administrators, nine asylum-seeking parents were interviewed and 10 asylum-seekers were observed in the classroom and school environment. Data were analyzed using inductive analysis, one of the content analysis techniques. As a result of the study, it was determined that the main problems encountered during the education process of asylum seeker children were language and communication problems. Another problem was cultural difference. It has also been shown to Turkish parents and educators prejudices of asylum-seeking children and their families established communication negatively. Preschool education has been shown to play an important role in the language acquisition of asylum seekers, facilitating cultural adaptation and preparation for primary school.
