Investigation of the pre-school song repertoire in the context of values education

Values education in the pre-school period is considered important in terms of the personality development of children and their being beneficial individuals to society. Studies have shown that different methods are used in values education and children's songs are effective tools in this regard. This research was carried out to determine the status and density of the values in children's songbooks. In the research, preschool/kindergarten or preschool age group information was expressed and accessible children's songbooks were selected as the study group with the content determined by criterion sampling from the purposeful sampling method. As a method, the thematic analysis method was used with a qualitative approach. According to the findings, although no reference value was found in 2 of the 9 books included in the research, it was determined that the most "Love" value was found in each of the other books.This value has a total density of 42 in all of the books. Again, in terms of density, this is followed by the values of "Responsibility" and "Respect" with a density of 19 each.In the research, the values determined at least in the book were "Friendship" and "Honesty" in 2 each book, and "Cooperation" and "Tolerance" in 1 each book each. In terms of intensity, the "Tolerance" value is included in only 1 song. As a result, it is seen that the books discussed in the research are rich sources in terms of including especially the values of "Love", "Responsibility" and "Respect" in preschool values education. However, it has been determined that the values are not adequately addressed.
