Mediating roles of self construals and self compassion in the relationship between alturism levels and culturally sensitive counseling competencies in school counselors

The main aim of the study is to examine the mediating role of self-construals and self-compassion in the relationship between school counselors' altruism levels and culturally sensitive counseling competencies. Besides the main purpose, culturally sensitive counseling competency scores of the participants were compared regarding some variablaes such as gender, work sector, religiosity. The study group consists of 379 participants, 288 women and 91 men, who have an active business life, who want to participate in the research voluntarily, who can be reached via a web-based application. Multicultural Counseling Competence Scale, Altruism Scale, Relational Individual Collective Self-Aspects Scale, Self-Compassion Scale, Need for Social Approval Scale and Personal Information were used to collect research data. Descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance, correlation coefficients, regression analysis, multiple mediation analysis and bootstraping method were used in the analysis of the collected data. In the study, it was concluded that the culturally sensitive counseling proficiency scores of the school counselors were high, they did not significantly differ according to gender, work sector, religiosity, having a course about culturally sensitive counseling or a similar course, but they differed significantly regarding, taking part in social responsibility projects, counseling to a counselee with different cultural values other than his/her own cultural values and being exposed to discrimination dute to his/her cultural values. In addition, multiple mediation analysis yeilded that self-compassion and individual self had a partial mediation in the relationship between altruism and culturally sensitive counseling efficacy.
