Relationship between special education self-efficacy perceptions and job satisfactions of school counsellors: Mersin example

School counsellors taking part in many points of diagnosis, guidance and interference phases of individuals needing special education take important responsibilities. In this context, the aim of this study is to examine the relationship between special education self-efficacy perceptions and job satisfactions of school counsellors. 317 school counsellors serving in 2018-2019 educational year in Mersin city center districts in Ministry of Education government and private schools took part in the study. Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale, Counsellor Special Education Self-Efficacy Scale and Socio-Demographic Information Form were used in data collection. Study data were analyzed with Mann Whitney U test and Spearman's Rank Correlation. According to study results, both self-efficacy points and general, internal and external job satisfaction points differ significantly according to school counsellors' genders, school types they work, departments they graduated from, education levels, whether counselled to disabled individuals before and previous work experiences in an institution related to special needs. Besides, a positive significant relationship was found in the study between school counsellors' ages, experience years, number of disabled students in institution they work and their special education self-efficacies. Furthermore, although there is no significant relationship between genders, school types they work, departments they graduated from, education levels, whether counselled to disabled individuals before and previous work experiences in an institution related to special needs. Besides, a positive significant relationship was found in the study between school counsellors' ages, experience years, number of disabled students in institution and job satisfaction, a significant positive relationship was found only between student number and external job satisfaction. Finally, according to the results obtained from the study, there is a positive significant relationships between school counsellors' self-efficacy regarding special needs and their both general and internal and external job satisfaction.
