Aggression levels of secondary school students participating in school sports

The aim of this study is to examine the aggression levels of secondary school students participating in school sports in terms of some variables (school type, grade, gender, number of siblings, branch, type of sports, weekly sports hours, licensed sports status and marital status of parents). The study group of the research consists of 357 students, who are studying at five different secondary schools in Düzce, Merkez in the 2022-2023 academic year and participated in school sports. The Buss Perry Aggression Scale (BPSS) developed by Buss and Perry and adapted to Turkish by Demirtaş Madran (2012) was used to collect data. The scale consists of 29 items in total and 4 sub dimensions: physical aggression related to physically harming others, anger as the emotional dimension of aggression, hostility to measure the cognitive dimension of aggression, and verbal aggression related to hurting others verbally. The Cronbach Alpha coefficient for the entire Buss and Perry Aggression Scale is 0.85. Research indicates; a statistically significant difference (p<0.05) was found on the dimensions of aggression total scores, physical and verbal aggression and hostility sub-dimensions according to school type, aggression total scores and physical, verbal aggression and anger sub-dimensions according to grade level, physical and verbal aggression and hostility sub-dimensions according to gender, physical and verbal aggression sub-dimensions according to branch. In addition, no statistically significant difference was found according to the number of siblings, type of sports, sports hours, licensed sports and marital status of parents (p>0.05).
